Reformation Day Party
11:33 a.m. || October 30, 2015

So I've never liked Halloween. And the older I get, the more I dislike it. So much evil and death. I just don't like it.

W, S, Stephen and I will be having a mini Reformation Day party tomorrow. Reformation Day seems like something worth celebrating to me.

I like how I've shortened their names to W and S because I talk about them so much, haha.

Anyway, Reformation Day parties will probably be much less exciting than Halloween or harvest parties. But so much more wholesome. Maybe later, we can combine R. Day with a harvest theme or something.

Stephen used to go to a church that had great R. Day parties. I don't think they still do that, but they got to dress up in Renaissance costumes and stuff.

I feel like I need to delve into the history of the Reformation in order to feel more able to celebrate it, but this year we're watching Luther and having German food (ugh). LOL. It's really not just about Luther, though. I think we should celebrate in a more John Calvin way, with French food. Much better options. Haha! :D

It'll be so different when W and S are gone next year. :( They're moving to the midwest once W finishes his undergrad degree so W can go to seminary. I'm going to miss the heck out of them. I have a feeling their leaving will be a lot like the refugees leaving--didn't realize how much we loved each other until one of us left.

Heidi and Alex are moving south in pursuit of translation jobs for Alex (he has some very promising opportunities!). Thankfully, they'll be just over an hour away, but it still feels like a big move because they're leaving the metropolitan area.

Stephen and I are going to have to make some new friends. Maybe we'll move, too. :P Or we could just put more into our friendships with Charis and Andrew and Hayley and Isaac.

I don't think we'll be leaving our church anytime soon. This revelation came after a conversation with Jennie H a couple weeks ago. We were discussing how some churches err on the grace side and some err on the doctrine side, and PCC is really quite centrist when it comes to that. The culture of the church is tough for us to deal with sometimes, but the heart of the church is really not the same as the culture in it.

Paul preached an amazing sermon Oct. 5th when Jenny and her sister were here staying with us. Really sat me down in my seat. It was so spot-on. I had to tell him afterward how great it was. It was about how God removes our hearts of stone and gives us hearts of flesh instead, hearts that want to obey Him. It was lovely and restored a lot of my faith in his preaching.

Anyway... I need to go wake Micah here soon. He crashed early today. Not sure what's with him lately. He's been extra tired and grumpy lately, but then again so have Stephen and I and also Grandma. The weather recently changed from our lovely standard September/early October falls to our colder, rainier, standard late October and onward wintry weather. I think that must be why everyone's so off-kilter.

We're going to visit H and A today. They are moving on Sunday. That's why I have to wake Micah. Sigh. He's going to be grumpy.

Okay, off I go. Thanks for listening to my rambling.*

*By the way, I've stopped posting statuses on Fb, so I might be writing in here more often.
