More thoughts inspired from W. and S.

I've been trying to sort out what I think Christmas ought to be since I got married and started my own family. I stalled out a few years ago and got stuck. Then I met W. and S. and thanks to them, I'm refining my idea of Christmas more.

I decided today that I think stockings are silly. That has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with Santa.

Some people celebrate Christmas with 3 gifts for each kid, because Jesus got 3 gifts from the magi. But the magi were honoring him as king.... It doesn't seem right to take that and translate it to our kids.

I am totally recognizing the divide between cultural Christmas and Christ. :/

So how do you reconcile that?

What do more liturgical families' Christmases look like?

The only distant relationship I can see between Christ and Christmas is that Christ (and salvation) was God's gift to us.

So what do you do with that?

I'm going to have to think about this more.
