Nothing I Desire Compares With You
12:48 p.m. || April 18, 2017
My cousin (once or twice removed) Brian is an interesting person. He's not a believer but much of his (and my) extended family are believers. He has spent lots and lots of time in the world, learning everything he can, because he works for NPR. He doesn't post his opinions explicitly on Facebook, and I think he tries to be fairly balanced, but it's a pretty easy conclusion based on things he does post and based on who his friends are that he leans left. But overall he's a very thoughtful guy, and I think maybe getting more so as he ages (he's...like...in his early 40s?).
Anyway, today he posted one of his thoughtful posts. Apparently a man recently died, and the last thing his wife told him was a lie, presumably so he would die peacefully (the lie was that Donald Trump has been impeached...LOL?). Brian's question to his Facebook friends was, "So would you want to be lied to in your final moments, if it brought you happiness and relief? Or would you be willing to tell someone a lie if it did the same before they passed?"
I said nope on both counts, "because I value honesty too much." Which is very true. And then I thought about it more and realized, there is nothing anybody could tell me that would bring me more peace and happiness than what I already know, which is that God is good, and I have peace with Him because of the sacrifice of Christ. And because I think of that as the most important thing, it's the only thing I would want to tell a dying person.
