Red Dress!
3:30 p.m. || February 20, 2009

I may be addicted to pretty dresses. :)

I can't get enough of them. I just got another one, for the gala at Stephen's work next week. I already have...*counts*...seven nice dresses that I could've decided to wear. But no, I had to get another one.

This dress is different, however, in that it's a "grown-up dress." With the exception of my high school prom dress, it's the only nice dress I have that cost over $40. The others I have gotten from Goodwill or other discount stores.

That's not the real reason I call it my grown-up dress. First of all, it's red. I don't mean maroon. I mean RED. It's kind of a dark red red, but it is most definitely a red, not a burgundy. I do have one other red dress--redder than the one I just got, actually--but that was a poofy bridesmaid dress. This dress has no poof... It looks a-ma-zing on me, and that isn't just my husband's opinion. :) When I had put it on, I walked out of the fitting room for Stephen to see and a 13- or 14-year-old girl browsing the racks outside said bluntly, "You look pretty!" Awww!

Stephen looked stunned and could hardly speak. Sometimes he does that on purpose--which I think is incredibly sweet. But I've never seen him look at me quite that way before. :D

As I walked back in past the triple mirrors, one of two women there said to her friend, with no little admiration, "Oh, look! Look there, behind you!"

I blushed and said, "It comes in lots of sizes, you could probably find one there for you."

She said, "Oh, no, I could never wear that!" I felt kind of embarrassed at what I said, but I was glad she looked so amazed. :)

It has a train in the back--8", the website says! I'm going to have trouble with that--I'm not much of a train person; I didn't even have one on my dress for the wedding. :P But I'm still going to look a-ma-zing. And I love, love, love that look on Stephen's face when he sees me in it.

Red is an okay color on me. I'm blessed not to have blotchy pink skin, which would clash terribly with anything red, although I'm not olive-colored like my husband, mom and sister are. Someone once described my skin as "peaches and cream." It's kind of nice--I look good in just about any color, except very pale colors.

I've been looking for a red dress forever. You know that song, "Lady in Red" by Chris de Burgh? I always wanted to be that woman! And when I met Steve and found out his favorite color was red, I was even more determined to have a gorgeous red dress to wear! And I've finally found one. :D

I'm going to have my sister do my hair for the gala. I think I'll ask her for make-up tips too. Heck, maybe I'll have her DO my make-up. She's so good.

Um...I love Yahoo! Answers. I ask it, "What color make-up goes with a red dress?" And I get 30 different answers, most very helpful! Grey make-up it is. :) And light, too... My favorite tip was, "Red is a very loud color, and you don't want your face competing with it!" That is priceless advice there.
