Sometimes I wonder how I can stand that girl.

"That girl" that I am referring to is a girl here named Lacey. I like her. She's kind of funny and cute sometimes. But she tries way too hard to be funny and cute. Do any of you out there know the types of girls I'm talking about? They come across as self-centered, sometimes, because all they talk about is themselves or things relating to themselves (like boys they like). I am not a psychologist, nor do I intend to be, but I am wondering what on earth makes her the way she is.

Okay, anyway... Lacey has all the wrong ideas about attracting attention--guys' attention in particular. She's probably been taken advantage of before. Getting attention in general... The things she says drive me nuts. She's so, so obviously vague, if that's not too much of an oxymoron. Although she likes a new guy every week (I'm not kidding you), there's this one guy that she has become completely attached to because he is the one who won't respond to her. He won't flirt back. She refers to him sometimes by name, but more often as the "certain someone." And at times, like today, if he walks into the room, she will try to get his attention without telling anyone, and if he doesn't see her or respond, she says out loud to everyone within hearing range, "Oh, shoot!" Very emphatically. Just to get people to ask her, "What?"

That's what drives me nuts.

That's why I say I don't know how I stand her sometimes. But it's true--she's likeable! She really is. She just doesn't know it, I guess, and tries way too hard.

I'm glad she's likeable at least somewhat, because I want to be a sort of good influence on her or something, and if I absolutely couldn't stand being around her, what kind of example would that be?

So what do you do with a girl like her? All I can think of now is to keep hanging around her as much as I can tolerate and trying to be a good influence. And pray, of course... I should get back to praying for my friends.
