Old Faces in New Places
5:57 p.m. || November 18, 2013

Wow, I have something to write in here!

I saw my old coworker today, Georgene, in the unlikeliest of places! She was working the coffee bar at the medical clinic I go to. I did not even recognize her. She grew her hair out and let it go to its natural color, which has quite a bit of gray in it. I could not get over my shock. I wouldn't even have recognized her if she hadn't said, "Hello, Miss Stephanie!" That's her characteristic greeting for me. My jaw just dropped and all I could stammer out was, "You grew out your hair!"

She didn't say much else to me, but she did throw out a noncommittal, "We should get together sometime and catch up"--also very characteristic of her--and I mumbled back an equally noncommittal, "Yeah...", but had every intention of calling her later.

At the moment, I was just seriously in shock.

When I was working with her, her hair was cropped short in a cute, young pixie-style cut and a medium red-brown, showing all her spunk (and she has lots!). Now it's down past her shoulders and graying and she looks like a librarian or something. Weeeiiiirrrd weird weird!

But nonetheless, after work, I called her. It was dinnertime, so she didn't answer, but I left a message apologizing for not chatting more at the clinic (I was running late for work), and then invited her to the dessert tea my church is having the first weekend in December. I hope she says yes, but who knows with her?

Still can't believe that was her. Wow.

And every time I see her my curiosity just screams, because her life and her personality are so peculiar to me, LOL. I must admit I probably look at her a bit like a zoo exhibit sometimes. :)

What on earth will it be like to talk with her after 3 long years?

-Stephanie
