Ty's Job Complete
10:51 p.m. || June 17, 2005

When I was doing New Employee Orientation, Hilary, one of my coworkers, joked to me, "Ty's one intent when he hires new people is to make them cry." Flustered as I was at the moment, trying to remember all the new stuff I was being shown, I said, "He'll succeed!"

Today Ty met with his success.

He wasn't the cause, however. I, for starters, was rather emotional today and, on top of that, I was just really out of it for some reason. I messed up a couple orders, and this one lady whose house is right next to the Domino's parking lot came over and said, "I ordered Buffalo Chicken Kickers, not Hot Wings..." She seemed annoyed and trying not to show it or something. I knew I'd taken her order, and the guy talking to her apparently came to the same conclusion. He shot me a Look. I stood there, looked down at my feet, and felt those old tears bubbling up in my eyes.

I tried not to cry, but with me that's pretty much impossible when I suffer a moment like that. Ty tried to "comfort" me--probably out of annoyance at having a new employee incapacitated because she was blubbering. "No one's mad at you," he said, without much feeling. But he is the manager; he's there to run a business, not be everyone's friend. I can understand that.

One of the assistant managers, John, came up to me and led me to the back. He is the kind, compassionate one in the business. He gently pulled me to the side and talked to me. He told me it was going to be okay. With great effort, I put a stop to my tears, knowing I had a job to get back to. I spent a few minutes in the bathroom to wipe out the last few remaining tears. I came out and got back to answering phones and was okay the rest of the time I was working.

At 7:45, business was slow, so John came up to me again and told me I could go home. So I slipped to the back again to change out of my Domino's clothes. The minute I was out the door I was fighting back tears again. I really needed to cry... And, boy, I sure did once I was alone in my car. I went to the lady's house and knocked on the door, with the intent to apologize, but no one answered. So instead I just drove home. On the way I decided to go to my comfortable little church for a while to cry. One of the side doors was open, and I was glad. In my opinion, churches should always have at least one open door, even if they DO have nice sound equipment that could get stolen, like ours does. What if someone has finally reached that point in their lives and wants to go give their heart to Jesus right then, at the altar of the church?

But anyway. I'm through... I should get home, for goodness' sake, it's 11:00! And I am TIRED. My eyes, especially... Good night, everyone, and God bless.
