A possible story. Based on a dream about a friend. I'll work out details later. Tell me what you think.

I. In the beginning

A. Katie the hurting--a trip into the dark world of her mind

1. History

a. Dad walked out
b. Mom drank, abused
c. Brother fought a lot, maybe did drugs
d. Slept with a lot of (the wrong) boys in HS, drank, tried drugs to make the pain go away
e. Nothing worked-began cutting, suicidal thoughts

II. Middle

A. Meets only Christian who tells her she loves her

1. Become fast friends, despite complete differences

a. some same classes, sit by each other
b. laugh at same things
c. Katie tells Christian some stuff about her past

B. Katie loses her memory

1. Drunk or high at weekend party, Katie falls and hits her head
2. Friends take her to town. Wanders till she comes to Christian's house--almost remembers it.
3. Christian recognizes her, takes her under wing

a. Live together at house
b. She remembers vaguely how she feels about things but not why.

C. Katie at the house

1. Christian guides her toward hope, but doesn't press her to becom a Christian. Just talks about God and brings her to church.

a. Doesn't remind her of how her live was (to protect her--we all make mistakes w/ good intentions...)

2. Katie starts getting frustrated--she wants to know who she was, 'cause none of this fits...

a. "fights" with Christian--maybe two fights--second time wanders off for hours. Christian worries her head off... Prays, frustrated, scared.
b. Meanwhile, Katie finds way to "familiar" crack house where she used to frequent--sees needles, bottles, etc., starts to remember fear, pain, anger and pain

i. Angry at Christian for not telling her

c. Returns to house after another hour--has nowhere else to go that harbors hope and love

i. still angry, but can't be for very long

3. A few days in contemplation, comparing life with Christian to life before.

a. Comes to Christian; asks for the hope she has

III. New Life, New Memory

A. Returns to School

1. Desperate to catch up--but too caught up in school to dwell on newly remembered former life (MORE DETAIL NEEDED THIS SECTION)

B. Christmas Break

1. Katie has been threatening not to go back home. (Doesn't want the pain. Thinks better off without tie to former life.) Eventually goes (why? explain)
2. Misses Christian terribly, but finds love at home too--from brother

a. Mother still abusive, but Katie stands strong
b. "There's hope."
c. Brother starts to ask.

III. End

A. Possbility--too long?/too happy?

1. Returns to school after break--joy of seeing Christian again--tells about family, esp. brother; girls pray together

a. Brother converts? (Epilogue?)
