Fearing Failure is Not An Excuse to Be Irresponsible
6:28 p.m. || March 30, 2011

Dear Diary,

I have been convicted....I must be less selfish. I must learn to make mistakes.

I was reading this a how-to page on how to be responsible, and this point stuck out to me:

Overcome your fear of failure. When you take responsibility for something, it essentially means that you'll take the blame if it doesn't work out. So it's easy to fall back on the idea that if you don't take responsibility, you'll never fail. But the only way you can succeed is if you allow yourself to make mistakes that you can learn from. In other words, it's not the end of the world if you mess up! And if there's someone in your life who's making it seem that way, they're probably assigning you too much responsibility (perhaps so that they can shed some of their own).

Aye yi yi. This is hard. :(

---------------------------------------------------

More help on fearing failure. I can't believe I'm looking this up. #1 really stuck out to me here.

1. Don't think too highly of yourself - I think this would be the main thing to help you stop fearing failure. When you have an elevated view of your importance, you will be more afraid of what people will think of you if you fail. 2. Learn to laugh at yourself - when you do fail, which is inevitable, laugh at yourself! Nothing will drive your fear away faster than being quick to acknowledge your mistakes with a laugh. 3. Take calculated risks - this means don't jump before you look. You will have more confidence in your decisions and less reason to fear failure when you research thoroughly before jumping into a relationship, business, or job.
